Indexes of Regional Economic Growth in Post-Accession Romania

    Get PDF
The European Cohesion Policy is designed to yield concrete results, furthering economic and social cohesion and reducing gaps between development levels in the various regions. Considering the context of the early post-accession period, posing significant challenges to regional development in Romania, we have investigated, based on three indexes that we advance in the methodological section, the pace of development, comparatively, in the eight development regions of Romania. The results of the study, further presented, can serve as a basis for more detailed empirical investigation of the phenomena theoretically approached in this paper.cohesion, regional development, integration, intellectual capital

Models Of The Intra-Regional Trade Influence On Economic Sustainable Development In Romania

    Get PDF
This paper estimates the impact of trade between Romania and EU (export and imports) on sustainable development (defined through the following ratios: GDP growth and employment level) using dynamic forecasting and vector auto-regression (VAR) methods. Logistic regression forecasts the evolution of the GDP based on the evolution of exports and imports in the light of the Lisbon agenda, and the time horizon of 2010. Using data regarding intra-regional trade, the model may predict the GDP evolution, and, consequently, the economic sustainable development in Romania, as a new member of European Union.sustainable development intra-regional trade, economic integration, regression, model

This article evaluates the results of antibiotic sensitivity tests of 482 microorganisms strains detected in patients with acute diarrheal diseases from contagious diseases department. The analysis of the microbial susceptibility results to antibacterials of isolated microbial agents found that conditionally pathogenic microorganisms present a stronger resistance to the tested medications as follows: Enterobacter cloacae – 43.14%, Klebsiella pneumoniae – 36,48%, Enterobacter agglomerans – 35.48% Klebsiella oxytocae – 35.02%, Citrobacter freundii – 33.2%, Staphylococcus aureus – 39.1%. Meantime, study results show that pathogen microorganisms are less resistant to the same tested medications: Salmonella bovismorbifi cans – 16.67%), Shigella sonnei – 8.7%, Salmonella typhimurium – 7.89%. Salmonella bovis-morbifi cans – 16.67%, Shigella sonnei – 8.7%, Salmonella typhimurium – 7.89%

A model for assessing Romania's real convergence based on distances and clusters methods

    Get PDF
Accession into Euro Area for Eastern European Countries became a compulsory and a very demanding step. These new members should achieve specific condition that are called “nominal convergence” criteria and that are defined by Maastricht Treaty. The convergence level reflects how much these countries are prepared to face the challenges and threats of being included into a high competitive economic area. Many studies on nominal and real convergence have been developed lately. The present paper is aimed at testing the real convergence for selected Eastern European Countries, including Romania, based upon distances and clusters methodology

Thermodynamic Properties of Aqueous Species Calculated Using the HKF Model: How Do Different Thermodynamic and Electrostatic Models for Solvent Water Affect Calculated Aqueous Properties?

    Get PDF
Thermodynamic properties of aqueous species are essential for modeling of fluid-rock interaction processes. The Helgeson-Kirkham-Flowers (HKF) model is widely used for calculating standard state thermodynamic properties of ions and complexes over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. To do this, the HKF model requires thermodynamic and electrostatic models of water solvent. In this study, we investigate and quantify the impact of choosing different models for calculating water solvent volumetric and dielectric properties, on the properties of aqueous species calculated using the HKF model. We identify temperature and pressure conditions at which the choice of different models can have a considerable effect on the properties of aqueous species and on fluid mineral equilibrium calculations. The investigated temperature and pressure intervals are 25–1000°C and 1–5 kbar, representative of upper to middle crustal levels, and of interest for modeling ore-forming processes. The thermodynamic and electrostatic models for water solvent considered are: Haar, Gallagher and Kell (1984), Wagner and Pruß (2002), and Zhang and Duan (2005), to calculate water volumetric properties, and Johnson and Norton (1991), Fernandez and others (1997), and Sverjensky and others (2014), to calculate water dielectric properties. We observe only small discrepancies in the calculated standard partial molal properties of aqueous species resulting from using different water thermodynamic models. However, large differences in the properties of charged species can be observed at higher temperatures (above 500°C) as a result of using different electrostatic models. Depending on the aqueous speciation and the reactions that control the chemical composition, the observed differences can vary. The discrepancy between various electrostatic models is attributed to the scarcity of experimental data at high temperatures. These discrepancies restrict the reliability of the geochemical modeling of hydrothermal and ore formation processes, and the retrieval of thermodynamic parameters from experimental data at elevated temperatures and pressures.ISSN:1468-8115ISSN:1468-812

A robust cost function for stereo matching of road scenes

    Get PDF
International audienceIn this paper different matching cost functions used for stereo matching are evaluated in the context of intelligent vehicles applications. Classical costs are considered, like: sum of squared differences, normalized cross correlation or census transform that were already evaluated in previous studies, together with some recent functions that try to enhance the discriminative power of Census Transform (CT). These are evaluated with two different stereo matching algorithms: a global method based on graph cuts and a fast local one based on cross aggregation regions. Furthermore we propose a new cost function that combines the CT and alternatively a variant of CT called Cross-Comparison Census (CCC), with the mean sum of relative pixel intensity differences (DIFFCensus). Among all the tested cost functions, under the same constraints, the proposed DIFFCensus produces the lower error rate on the KITTI road scenes dataset 1 with both global and local stereo matching algorithms
